A Carson City man who broke his heels jumping last week from the second story inside the Carson City jail pleaded guilty to failing to register as a convicted sex offender.
Robert Nadon, 34, entered the guilty plea Tuesday from a wheelchair before District Court Judge Bill Maddox. In exchange for the plea, charges of possession of stolen property and obtaining money under false pretenses were dropped.
Nadon was suspected of burglarizing his father-in-law's home of weapons in December, but when a witness changed his story, saying he couldn't be sure Nadon was the man who sold him the stolen guns, the case fell apart, said Sgt. Bob White.
Detectives were also unable to tie Nadon to the disappearance of a man missing since September, White said.
He said in the course of investigating the weapon thefts information was received that Nadon was allegedly claiming he "took care of," John Wayne Bragg, the ex-husband of Nadon's wife.
"But we couldn't prove that Nadon had anything to do with Mr. Bragg's disappearance," he said.
On April 16, Nadon threatened to jump from the upstairs balcony in the special-needs unit of the jail if he didn't speak with a psychologist. When an officer went to locate the psychologist, Nadon jumped, breaking both his heels.
He told Maddox he will undergo surgery Thursday and doctors expect, "I'm not going to be able to walk for three months."
He was released on his own recognizance pending sentencing June 14.
According to Maddox, Nadon was convicted of open and gross lewdness in Douglas County in 1990.
Because of that charge, he is required to register his address whenever he moves.
