Dick Burdette Jr.

A funeral service for Dick Burdette Jr., 61, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. today and Sunday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Burdette died April 27, 2005, in Carson City. He was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Philadelphia to Richard Sr. and Anne Meigs Adamson Burdette.

He grew up in Piqua, Ohio, and Scottsdale Ariz. He graduated from Scottsdale High School in 1961, where he was valedictorian and student body president.

He attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where he sang in the choir and played football.

After graduating in 1965, he was stationed on the nuclear attack submarine, USS Guardfish.

He later became an administrator and teacher at the Naval Nuclear Power School and went on to earn a master's degree in quantitative economics from the University of Delaware.

He worked in the field of energy and transportation for many years, including as a legislative assistant for the U.S. Senate and was deputy assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Most recently, he was energy advisor to Gov. Kenny Guinn.

He sang in choirs wherever he went, including the Carson City's Chamber Singers.

Among his survivors are his wife, Julie; sons Richard III and Ian; daughter Megan; his father; sisters Susan Brasher and Vicki Huber and grandsons Colin and Garrett.
