Heading back to school at Dayton Elementary

Dayton Elementary School teachers and staff members look forward to welcoming students back Aug. 29.

Kindergarten students: The school will host a kindergarten orientation for parents at 9 a.m. on Aug. 29. Orientation for afternoon students begins at 10:30 a.m. Kindergarten students are invited.

During the first half-hour, students will be supervised by staff on the playground while parents meet with teachers.

During the last half-hour, students will get acquainted with their new school environment.

Morning kindergarten session begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon kindergarten session begins at 12:15 p.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Bus transportation is available for kindergarten students in the morning and afternoon. Parents are responsible for transportation midday.

To parents whose children do not ride the bus: For the sake of students' safety, do not drop off your child at school prior to 8:30 a.m. There is no staff on playground duty prior to that time and cannot assure your child's safety without supervision. Also, pick up your child promptly after school.

For all parents and students: Class lists will be posted outside the main building entrance (by the front gate at 7 a.m. Friday) Buses arrive at school at approximately 8:30 a.m. School begins at 8:45 a.m. Breakfast is available for 75 cents per day.

Lunch is served in five sessions, beginning at 11:40 a.m. and ending at 1:10 p.m. Lunch for students in kindergarten through fourth grades is $1.25 per day and $1.50 per day for fifth graders.

Students are encouraged to purchase lunch tickets for $27.50 for 22 lunches per ticket for grades kindergarten through fourth and $33 for 22 lunches for fifth graders. School is dismissed each day at 3 p.m.

Students in first through fifth grades should report directly to their assigned classroom on the first day of school. Staff will be available in the main foyer to assist students and parents who may need help or directions.

Students will each be given a Student/Parent Brochure and Work Folder. This folder contains important information about the school, expectations for students and other useful information.

Parents are encouraged to review this information with their child. The folder is also used to send home newsletters, student work, progress reports and other important items. Parents should take the time to review their child's folder each week.

Parents of kindergarten and new students who have not yet enrolled their children are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. They will need to provide a birth certificate, proof of residency (utility bill, rent receipt, etc.), and current immunization records. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Many opportunities are available for parent involvement. One way to support the school is by joining the Bobcat Booster Club. For information about the Bobcat Boosters and other service opportunities, call the school.
