ComputerCorps' open house coming

ComputerCorps is hosting its annual Open House from noon-4 p.m. Wednesday. The public is invited; no reservations are needed.

Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and appetizers will be provided during the Open House. Guided tours will be running every 15 minutes and you can feel free to self-tour the facilities.

Come out to see all of the changes that have occurred during the past year as well as the proposed development for ComputerCorps. Meet our staff and volunteers and become a volunteer while you are enjoying yourself.

Shorter version of 'The Nutcracker' offered Monday

Sierra Nevada Ballet, in collaboration with the Brewery Arts Center and Carson City Redevelopment, presents "The Peanutcracker - The Story In A Nutshell" at 7 p.m. Monday in the Carson City Community Center. Based on "The Nutcracker," this 45-minute version is a shorter, narrated version designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the world of ballet.

Tickets are $8 general; $5 children age 3 to 12, seniors 65+ and BAC embers.

Retired employees group meeting for lunch on Tuesday

NARFE Chapter 1329 will meet at Grandma Hattie's at 11:30 a.m. for a luncheon (optional) on Tuesday.

The business meeting is at 12:15 p.m. The chapter will be installing officers for 2006 and a celebration of the holiday season will be held after the meeting with dessert provided for attendees. All retired and active Federal employees are invited to attend.

Pie order deadline nearing at center

Ron Wood Family Resource Center is accepting orders for pies for the holidays.

Pie choices are apple, pumpkin or pecan.

Cost is $10 and includes pie delivery to the center for pickup. The last day to place an order is Thursday.

To order, call 884-2269 or drop by 212 E. Winnie Lane from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. All proceeds go to social service programs at the resource center.

Senior center to celebrate Christmas

The Carson City Senior Center will celebrate Christmas with its annual party during lunch on Friday. Santa will be there. Those coming are encouraged to bring a gift to exchange.

Gifts should cost a no more than $10.

It is a cheeseburger, root beer float sort of day.

'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' on stage Sunday

The Tahoe Players will be presenting the 15th annual holiday season show, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs the Musical at the Reno Hilton showroom. Shows are at 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are on sale at the Reno Hilton Showroom box office and are $18 for adults and $12 for children. Special Angel Seating is available, check the Hilton for availability and prices. Call 789 2285.

Mound House

Businessowners reach out to help Mound House residents

Old Time Café owners, Rich and Judy Mirk, are asking the community for help to gather gifts and items for Christmas food baskets for Mound House area people in need. Several riders from the Northern Nevada Pony Express Association have volunteered to give Santa a hand by delivering the donated gifts on horseback while retracing the steps of the original Pony Express riders in Mound House.

The Mirks are asking for donations of gifts for children, and teens and traditional food items that would be found on most Christmas dinner tables: ham, dressing, potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, olives, pies, rolls and butter.

The Mirks are working with FISH in Carson City and the WIC program and Parks and Recreation in Dayton to find Mound House residents who aren't already being helped.

Anyone wanting to donate gifts, food items, or money can drop by the Old Time Café, 10196 Highway 50 East, Mound House between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.
