The Silver Springs Airport, with the support of Lyon County, continues improvements, with a $1.6 million funding request submitted to the Federal Aviation Association for capital expansion to provide fuel services, fire suppression, and expansion of ramp areas and entry road.
Funding is expected next spring, says Kay Bennett, manager, and the airport's engineering firm, PBS&J,will let bids for the work once notice of funding is received.
With all 14 hangars under lease, and 20 people on a waiting list, the airport also plans to build additional hangars next year.
The 2006 Fly Fest, sponsored last fall by Lyon County Fly Fest, Inc.
drew 5,000 attendees.
The airport is considering hosting additional events next year.
