Dayton corridor gaming expansions approved

The Nevada Gaming Commission gave final approval Thursday for major expansions of casinos in Silver Springs, Fallon and Dayton.

The Silver Strike Casino in Silver Springs will install up to 60 slot machines. Owner Greg Berry said the establishment will cater to locals in what he said is one of Nevada's most dynamic, growing areas.

In addition, Berry said he will open a completely remodeled Oasis Springs Casino in downtown Fallon. He said he and his family have owned the property for a decade.

The Oasis is currently closed but will reopen with licensing for up to 75 machines.

And the commission approved plans for Stephen and Laurence Young and Alan Vogl to build a new casino in Dayton. Young said the 2,800-square-foot slots casino will be built on Retail Road across the street from Smith's and open with 20 machines.

All of the projects won recommendations for approval from the Gaming Control Board on Dec. 7.

They will join a remodeled and expanded Depot Casino and Redhawk Sports Bar in Dayton. Those projects won approval for major expansions in August. The Sands Regency Hotel and Casino in Reno purchased the property and plans to spend $2 million on improvements to the Depot and Redhawk.

In addition, SlotWorld, which operates a casino on Highway 50 in east Carson City, is planning a new operation in the Dayton corridor.
