A memorial service for Gary John Vargas Sr., 58, of Gardnerville, will be at 3 p.m. Jan. 15 at Weekes Community Center, 27182 Patrick Ave., Hayward, Calif.
Mr. Vargas died Dec. 10, 2005, of cancer.
He was born Dec. 26, 1946, in San Leandro, Calif., to Herb and Jane Vargas.
He graduated from San Leandro High School in 1964.
Mr. Vargas was a truck driver with Bentley Corp.
He had a passion for pitching softball.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Chu Lai, Vietnam.
Among his survivors are his wife, Sharon; parents of Surprise, Ariz.; sons Gary, Jr. and Bob; daughters Michelle and Tracy; grandsons Isaac, Marcus and Zachary; brothers and sisters-in-law Dan and Diane and Rick and Cheryl, all of Northern California; and many extended-family members.
Memorial contributions may be made to hospice or the American Cancer Society.
FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
