Natives and Newcomers to meet Thursday

The Carson City Natives and Newcomers will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Indian Curry, 2329 N. Carson St.

Calendar discussed at school board meeting

At the school board meeting 7 p.m. tonight in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St., the year-round calendar for Fremont Elementary School, which runs on a nontraditional schedule, will be discussed for the 2005-06 school year.

The meeting is open to the public.

Bordewich-Bray Elementary School Principal Sue Keema will speak about an upcoming vote at the school that could initiate a change in the school schedule to year-round.

Carson City JayCees to plan Easter egg hunt

The Carson City JayCees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Feb. 24 at Tequila Dan's.

The topics are preparation for the Easter egg hunt and the possible Fun Run to raise money for the Happy Feet program. JayCees is a young persons' organization for ages 18-40, who are interested in volunteering for their community. For information, call Wendy Keller-Smith at 246-0128.

One-mile walk to observe birds planned

The Lahontan Audubon Society is sponsoring a birding field trip at 9 a.m. Saturday at Riverview Park in Carson City. The one-mile walk will explore wetlands, sagebrush and riparian habitats.

This is the fourth Winter Bird Trip to Riverview Park. Some of the more memorable species in 2004 included an extended close-up view of a bald eagle and a flock of approximately 300 piñon jays.

Join the walk - rain, snow, or shine. Dress in layers and be prepared for a muddy trail. Free and open to the public.

Youth Valentine's dance to be held Friday

The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a Back in Time Valentine's Day dance from 6-9 p.m. Friday

The center is at 449 W. King St. The dance is in the ballroom upstairs. The dance is for ages 11-14 and features music from the '50s and '60s.

Admission is $3, and a snack bar is available.

BAC hosts fund-raiser to help tsunami victims

Regina Pacis Cantorum of Reno and a variety of guest artists will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center. All proceeds will benefit the victims of the tsunami disaster.

The requested donation is $10 per person or $20 per family and may be paid at the time of admission. A freewill offering will also be taken.
