Live rap and soul music at the Solid Rock Cafe

The Solid Rock Cafe will host a free night of live rap and soul music along with live drama and videos from 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Movie night is at the cafe from 7-9 p.m. March 12. Admission is free to view "The Homecoming." There will be free popcorn and refreshments.

The Solid Rock Cafe is at 264 W. Winnie Lane in the corner of the Winnie West Shopping Plaza.

Pruning pointers given at workshop

For pointers on how to prune your trees, attend a free University of Nevada Cooperative Extension workshop, "Proper Tree Pruning," 5:30-7:30 p.m. March 9 at the Carson City/Storey County office of Cooperative Extension, 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 12.

Incorrectly pruned trees can become susceptible to pests and disease.

"Little Toots" perform at State Railroad Museum

Fremont Elementary School's second-grade student chorus, known as the "Little Toots," will provide an evening of railroad music 7 p.m. March 9 at the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Railroads have been celebrated in song since the first rails were laid on the East Coast in the 1830s.

Myths, legends and humor all contributed to the heritage of railroad music as it is handed down through the years.

"Little Toots" are students from the second-grade classes of Mrs. Berge and Mr. Wheeler.

They are led by Sandra Irvin, who accompanies the singers on guitar.

Workshop teaches art of gardening in a container

A workshop in "Exploring the World of Container Gardening" will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 8 at Bartley Ranch, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road in Reno.

Christian revival starts Sunday

Potter's House Christian Fellowship Church will hold a revival at 7 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. nightly March 7-10.

High Desert Horsemen will conduct a de-spooking workshop at 10 a.m. Sunday at 11285 Silver Lane, Stagecoach.

Melodrama returns to Mia's in Dayton

A melodramatic farce, "The Red Lamp, or Who's Going to Pahrump?" will be performed by The Misfits theater group at Mia's Swiss Restaurant in Old town Dayton at 7:30 p.m. March 18, 19, 25 and 26.
