Herbert E. Winchester

A memorial service for Herbert E. Winchester, 94, a Carson City resident for the past 53 years, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City, with a reception following in the fellowship hall.

Mr. Winchester died Feb. 22, 2005, in Reno. He was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Lincoln, Neb., to Dean E. and Bertha Green Winchester.

He graduated from the University of Denver, Colorado, with a degree in geology.

He married Grace Ingram Dec. 29, 1940. She preceded him in death in 1996.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Ogden, Utah.

Mr. Winchester was a geologist for the state of Nevada.

He enjoyed photography, rockhounding, traveling, storytelling, working on cars, camping, big-band music, dancing, skiing, walking, polkas, pie and barbecues.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Civil Air Patrol. He was a volunteer for the Carson City Sheriff's Office for 16 years, a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Mariners at the Presbyterian Church and the Water Well Drillers' Association.

Among his survivors are his sons Keith of Carson City and Bruce of Rialto, Calif.; daughters Barbie of Minden and Joyce Morris of Reno; and three grandchildren.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
