Come alone to Wine and All That Jazz and you may get lucky

Winter Wine and All that Jazz, sponsored by Ben's Fine Wine and Spirits, will be held at the Carson Nugget Saturday night. The funds go to help Carson Advocates for Cancer Care. If you're single or a couple, purchase a ticket. A little secret: This is how Ken Beaton met his beautiful wife seven years ago, so don't feel you have to find someone to go with. Get your tickets right away; they always sell out. Each year, the advocates help between 30 and 40 cancer patients financially

Carson City Republican Women are continuing their commitment to Advocates to End Domestic Violence by collecting toiletries and personal items at each meeting. In December, more than 50 members donated new toys, clothing and toiletries to help make the holidays special for women and children in the Advocates' shelter.

On Jan. 18, Brian Krolicki will look at the upcoming legislative session from his perspective as state treasurer. He'll also discuss college savings plans in Nevada, including the popular Upromise accounts, and other issues related to his office.

The Carson City Library Youth Department run by Cory King is setting up for the very popular winter story time program. Come early as latecomers will not be admitted.

Free admission tickets at the Youth Desk are now required for some programs. The session runs through Feb. 25.

Martin Luther King Day will be observed Jan. 17 at the Northern Nevada Children's Museum to teach children about the spirit of King's words, "For nonviolence not only calls upon its adherents to avoid external physical violence, but it calls upon them to avoid internal violence of spirit. It calls on them to engage in that something called love."
