Atlantis parent:Fourth quarter net set a record

Monarch Casino & Resort expects to post record results for the fourth quarter.

The owner of Atlantis Casino Resort said last week preliminary results show revenues of about $31 million for the fourth quarter compared with $28 million a year earlier.

That translates into earnings per share of about 36 cents, compared with 19 cents a year earlier,Monarch said in a statement.

For the full year,Monarch said it expects revenues of about $129 million a record for the company and earnings per share of about $1.70 compared with $1.02 during 2003.

John Farahi, chief executive officer and co-chairman, noted that the record earnings came despite a winter storm on New Year's Eve.

That storm, as well as a storm during the weekend of Jan.

8-9, led to what he called "a moderate decrease" in slot play at Atlantis compared with a year earlier.

Still, Farahi noted that early January traditionally is a slow month for the casino business in Reno.
