Calvary Chapel Carson City Fellowship and Kim Mckew are sponsoring a coat and jacket drive this week and February. The fellowship will gather travel-size deodorants, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, etc. to be given to nurses at schools so they can help children in need. Fritsch Elementary School nurse Joanne Eisel needs sweatsuits in sizes 6X to 14 junior.

The Carson City School District would like to thank state agencies for donating so much during Christmas and after. Debbie Galloway and her staff collected until Jan. 15 then bought items to be distributed throughout the district.

Carson High School is one of the few high schools in the country with a senior project requirement to graduate. Last year, I was so impressed by Adrienne Jordan's community clothing drive to help her fellow students. I have been asking my son and his friends what their senior projects are this year.
Emily Johnson is knitting hats for several organizations. Jaime Bourns and Samantha Boykin have bitten off the big project of starting a judicial youth court at Carson High to handle minor infractions on campus. They are taking notes from Douglas High School, which has benefited from a similar program for several years. Peer court is always a good idea.
Kyle Bacon is trying to raise funds for two high school scholarships - for baseball and soccer - to Western Nevada Community College's Wildcats. To help, purchase a $20 ticket to win a signed football from 49ers quarterback Steve Young, who was recently nominated to be inducted into football's Hall of Fame.

The Mile High/Carson High Jazz Extravaganza II is Friday at the Brewery Art Center. This event will include two big bands, small-combo performances and a finale combining both big bands. The CHS Band spends endless hours all year long on the show. The concert is a benefit for the band's second trip to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho, in February.
