Northern Nevada is one of two markets in the United States that will be the first to see rollout of a super-fast new wireless data service.
UbiquiTel Inc., which provides wireless network services under the Sprint brand name, said last week it launched its new Evolution Data Optimized service EV-DO in Reno and Boise.
The company, based at Conshohocken, Pa., said the EV-DO wireless service is up to 10 times faster than other wireless services.
Michael P.Medrow, vice president of sales and marketing for UbiquiTel, said the company targeted Reno and Boise because they are fast-growing markets in which wireless data services already have made a strong showing.
"We've seen a tremendous amount of growth around Reno,"Medrow said.
In northern Nevada, he said EV-DO service will cover the Reno business districts, Carson City and South Lake Tahoe.
For business customers, the company priced the service beginning at $40 a month.
An unlimited-service plan is available for $80 a month.
