Death doesn't stop the bill collector

According to a 1993 federal law, states must attempt to recoup some of the expenses paid out in Medicaid, if the recipient has assets at the time of their death.

If you're over 55 and don't have a living spouse or dependent child, the Nevada Medicaid Estate Recovery unit will come to collect all Medicaid claims after your death.

The Nevada Appeal is looking for families who have lost inheritances because of Medicaid estate recovery. Was it a surprise to find the bill after a loved one passed away? Are you a Medicaid recipient who fears for family inheritance after your death?
