Motorcycle driver killed in Tahoe crash

The driver of a black 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle was killed after a collision with a van on U.S. Highway 50 along Lake Tahoe at Lakeridge Curve around 6:20 p.m. Friday, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

Preliminary reports indicate the motorcyclist was driving to fast to safely negotiate the curve, troopers said.

According to the highway patrol, the motorcycle drifted across the double-yellow center line into the westbound travel lane. The front of the motorcycle reportedly struck the left front of a silver 2005 Honda Odyssey van, driven by Heather King, 33, of Reno.

The motorcycle driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

King and two passengers, including her infant son, were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, where they were treated for minor injuries.

The motorcycle driver's name is being held pending notification of the family.

It is unknown whether alcohol was a contributing factor.
