The signs that We Love This Place

Community pride is a key factor in making our valley a great place to live.

To increase community pride, Q&D Construction recently stepped up to support and fuel the "We Love This Place!" campaign by installing 70 new signs in and around town.

The award-winning "Signs" campaign is the latest development in the campaign created by the Rose/Glenn Group in 1999 to highlight the importance of community in the overall well-being and quality of life in northern Nevada.A surprising and fun approach was needed to refresh this community goodwill campaign.

The result is Rose/Glenn's "Signs" campaign, which has been described as "a wild posting of useful everyday thoughts delivered in an unusual execution." Hopefully,we'll get a chuckle from the person who reads the "No Frown Zone" sign in the parking lot.Maybe the busy person who reads "Call Your Mother Out of the Blue"will pick up the phone.

The campaign makes a big difference if the driver who notices the sign saying "Smile At A Total Stranger"waves at a worker in a construction zone.My favorite sign is "Pay Someone A Compliment."We all need to do that more often.

This is a fun way to remind people to be nice.

Q&D installed signs on the campuses of Bishop Manogue High School and Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center because we wanted to reach areas with a high density of foot traffic.

The response has been positive, and we hope other business leaders will continue to join in the fun.

During our sponsorship of the recent WIN dinner, I called on the business community to take part in participating in the "Signs" campaign. You can find details on buying signs on page 13 in this addition of Northern Nevada Business Weekly.

I recommend buying at least six signs because the more times you hit observers with a message, the greater the chance you'll coax them into thinking about community pride.

The sign that really drives the campaign home is "We Love This Place."We put six different signs up throughout our parking lot, and the employee response has been positive, and some have purchased their own signs.

It reminds employees that they work for a company that cares.

Q&D has advocated the community pride campaign since its inception and has proudly displayed the "We Love This Place!"decal on hundreds of trucks and company vehicles. We are thrilled that the Rose/Glenn Group came up with an award-winning new way to take community pride and humor a step farther into the community.

Rose/Glenn Group's vice president and creative director, Stan Byers, hit on a brilliant concept with these crazy signs.

Please join Q&D in supporting this campaign to bring the signs into more parking lots or pedestrian areas.

Thank you.

That reminds me of a sign I saw recently that reads,"Say Please and Thank You." Norm Dianda is president of Q&D Construction Inc.
