Halo Tournament July 9 at Sparky's

A Halo 2 players Tournament will be held at noon at Sparky's, 2310 S. Carson St., No. 4, on July 9.

The tournament is hosted by Game Crazy. Entry fee is $5 per person; proceeds will be donated to Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada. Prizes for top players and free giveaways.

Tickets buy you a chance to win a handmade quilt

Tickets are on sale from 1-3 p.m. Fridays through Sundays at the Roberts House Museum for an old broadcloth and pastel shades quilt sewn by the Carson Valley Quilters.

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit construction of a carriage house at the museum.

Tickets are six for $5 and the winner will be drawn Dec. 11 during the Victorian Home Christmas Tour.

Arts center members to discuss infractions by board

Brewery Arts Center members, staff and board members are invited to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St.

This is an informal meeting called by members of the BAC to discuss noncompliance by the BAC Board of Directors with the organization's bylaws. The meeting is part of an effort by members to petition the board to hold the required annual membership meeting and required annual membership election of 11 board officers.

Members of the BAC are urged to attend and voice their views.

Douglas County

Chamber hosts third sign ordinance meeting

The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Authority will meet at 10 a.m. today to preview and comment on proposed draft language changes to the Douglas County Sign Ordinance.

Following two workshops hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and attended by more than 30 local businesses two primary issues were identified, allowing A-Frame Signs and temporary vehicle signs that adhered to certain size, design and safety standards. At the June 2 Board of County Commissioners meeting, staff was directed to draft changes to the current ordinance. A first reading of the proposed changes is scheduled for July 7.

The purpose of Tuesday's meeting is to preview and comment on the draft language changes as proposed by county staff.

Gallery announces call for state artists

In preparation for a special gallery exhibit, "You Know You're a Nevadan If," based on the book of the same name by Reno artist Marilyn Melton and author Guy Clifton, Art Source Gallery announces a call for Nevada artists.

The exhibit runs Aug. 26 through Sept. 29 at the Art Source Gallery in south Reno.
