Abandoned-house fire's cause not yet determined

Investigators are still trying to determine if an abandoned-house fire in east Carson City is related to 11 wildland fires that are believed to be connected.

"They were looking at it closely and have not been able to draw any conclusions at this time if there was any connection," Carson City Fire Battalion Chief Dan Shirey said. "It's still under investigation."

A single-wide mobile home with a stick-built addition was destroyed Tuesday during the 7:13 p.m. blaze at Edmonds Drive and Reeves Street.

The property, owned by Stanton Park Developments, appeared to be vacant.

An arson task force is in place to compare the manner of ignition in the rash of fires in the area during the past two weeks.

Undersheriff Steve Albertsen, task force commander, said deputies are patrolling canyons and investigators are following leads and interviewing witnesses.

"The leads we've followed up on have run cold," he said.

"But people still need to call us with any information, and be alert and call us with any suspicious activity."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carson City Sheriff's Department at 887-2008 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
