Carol S. Ranta

Carol Ranta, 64, a Washoe Valley resident, died March 1, 2005, at her home. She was born and raised in Fort Bragg, Calif., the daughter of Harold and Lorraine Gibbons.

She married Robert Ranta and they lived in Ukiah, Calif., where she worked at the Child Development Center, Bank of America and Pepsi Cola Bottling Group until her retirement.

Mrs. Ranta was an avid horsewoman and active in local and national associations and events. She was the ride manager of the Cow Mountain 50 Mile Endurance Ride that took place in Ukiah for 17 years and served as West Regional Director of the American Endurance Ride Conference. She was also active in the Trails Council and worked to develop and perpetuate public trails.

Among her survivors are her husband of 45 years; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Jim Keller of Sparks and their children Amy and Emily; daughter and son-in-law Janis and Kevin Honea of Las Vegas and their children Shelby, Zachary and Logan; sister, Joan Morrison of Santa Rosa, Calif., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Inurnment is at Walton's Carson Gardens with a private memorial to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice of Reno.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
