Good kids, doing their homework and not copying

Carolyn is proud of her great nephew, TJ Olsen, for winning first prize in the Fremont Science Fair with his experiment showing whether a wood bat or a metal bat hits farther ... gee ... we didn't even know bats played baseball ... thought they just hung out in caves ... (never mind us, TJ ... we fell over the edge years ago).

And her granddaughter, Lexie Lequerica, received a "4" (that's the equivalent of an "A" to us older folks) on a book report she handed in to her teacher at Fritsch ... she did it all by herself, unlike our Congressman Jim Gibbons, who needs to look up the word "plagiarism" in the dictionary ... smart girl ...

Skip Thurman, of Thurman's Ranch House, said he has a lot to tell us, but most of it is unprintable ... hmmmm ... can you be more specific, Skip?

We hope that the Western Shoshone tribe succeeds where we have failed in taking on the Yucca Mountain debacle ... Maizie is taking a tour of it in June to see if we can convert it into a destination resort ...

M's niece, Maizie Pusich, has two children, Marissa, 4, and Luke, 7. The other day, Marissa was trying to con her mother out of something (probably a trip to Disneyland) and was failing miserably. Her brother decided to leap in and help the cause, but found himself at a disadvantage right along with Marissa. Luke eyed his mother, then looked at his sister and leaned over to her whispering, "Be careful, Mariss ... she's a lot smarter than she looks ... "

The Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum had their annual awards program last Friday night with a grand Mexican buffet catered by John Hurzel of Grandma Hattie's fame ... may we respectfully suggest to the "Friends" that they spring for a decent PA system for the museum ... the one they have sucks, since no one past the first two rows can hear anything ... signed: yours for better hearing ...

We will miss two people in the area ... Nola Pierce is moving back to Washington for health reasons ... Washington can use her sunny disposition in its cloudy climes ... and Kay Bunch will be missed in the Registrar's office ... but, at least, she'll be staying around Carson ... lovely ladies ...

Carson City's Young Democrats are organizing at Java Joe's on Thursday at 7:30 p.m ... Any young Dem, teenager to 36, is eligible for membership ... call Steve Platt for additional information at 887-0772 ... (we've figured it out that if we each join twice, we'd make the age limit) ... enjoy a cup of coffee, meet baristas Cassie and Gabrielle, and get involved ...

We also saw Alisha Kaskie at Java Joe's ... she's thrilled to be on her way to Bermuda next month to dance in a revue there ... we're thinking Broadway's next ...

True story from the Atlanta Journal ... "Single black female seeks male companion, ethnicity unimportant. I am a good looking girl who likes to play ... I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup, hunting, camping and fishing ... cozy winter nights, lying by the fire, and candlelit dinners will have me eating out of your hand. I will be at the front door when you get home from work wearing only what nature gave me. Call ... and ask for Daisy. I will be waiting."

Ahhhhh ... over 15,000 men found themselves talking to the Atlanta Humane Society about an 8-week-old Labrador retriever ... it didn't say if she was adopted, but we think the chances were good ...

Speaking of good dogs ... "Duncan" Jesse went to Doggie Heaven last month ... may he have great times playing with rocks and plush toys, chasing cats and eating anything he wants ...

Nobody asked us, but are we the only ones who think the "art park" at the Brewery Arts Center is out of place? We'd rather see local artists featured there ...

By the way, if you want to direct a play for the 2005-06 season for Proscenium Players, Inc. (their 40th year), the deadline is Friday ... contact Tom Strekal at www.reveddie@hotmail.com if you're interested ...
