Dr. Horace Calvert Frost

A memorial service for Horace Calvert Frost, 80, a Minden resident, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

Dr. Frost died March 9 at St. Mary's Hospital of pneumonia. He was born July 23, 1924, in Los Angeles, to Arthur Williams and Mary Koch Yocom Frost.

He attended Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles. He obtained bachelor and masters degrees in education from University of Southern California and a doctorate from Brigham Young University.

Dr. Frost had a long and distinguished career as an administrator with the Los Angeles Unified School District. He was a member of the Marine Raider Association and a board member of several community associations including Special Olympics, Sierra Assisted Living Foundation and Douglas County Senior Center.

He spent 21Ú2 years as a Marine Raider during World War II and received three purple hearts on Sugar Loaf Hill, Okinawa in 1945.

Among his survivors are his wife, Janice; son, Scott; daughter, Mary; son-in-law, Danny Wright and grandchildren Glenn, Karena and Evan Wright.

Burial will be at the Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, Calif., near other family members.
