USDA Food Distribution today at community center

The USDA commodity food distribution will be from 9-11 a.m. today at the Carson City Community Center.

Any needy family in the Carson City area can be eligible. The household must simply sign the Daily Issuance Sheet at the community center Wednesday, certifying their household's annual income does not exceed 150 percent of the poverty guidelines. Those income guidelines are currently $13,965 for a single and $18,735 for a couple. No application or proof of income will be required, only a picture ID/driver's license. Food may be picked up for those unable to attend by bringing a signed note from them and their picture ID.

Senior housing seeks apartment applicants

Applications are being taken for seniors age 60-plus interested in low-income apartments being built in Carson City.

The Autumn Village complex recently broke ground and is scheduled to be completed before Dec. 31.

Free tax help offered for last-minute filers

Nevada Legal Services Inc. is providing free tax-preparation services for low-income individuals and families.

Appointments can be made from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 4-8 and April 14-15 for those who have waited until the last minute to file.

Workshop on removing emotional blocks

Dr. Garland Landrith will conduct a workshop on the "Emotional Freedom Technique" to release blocks to our personal progress in our lives.

Landrith will be at the Spiritual Living Center at 675 Fairview Dr., Suite 218, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 2. The workshop is $35 in advance or $40 at the door and includes an EFT CD, lunch and handouts. For information, call 882-0901.

Museum closed Sunday, open Monday

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will be closed on Easter Sunday and opened on Monday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The museum is at 813 N. Carson St. Call 884-2226.

April 4 last day to sign up at Computer Learning Center

The Carson City Computer Learning Center has announced its latest graduates. From the Introduction to Computers Class are, in part: Ruth Pintar, Liz Petschke, Martha Steeprow, Sandra Apodaca, Dorothy Saunders, Chuck Orvis and Mary Ellen Klette, Carlo Velasquez, Charles Sheldon, Doug Sutherland, Mardee Farrall, Jean McFarland Lockett and Virginia Tobin.

The next Introduction to Computers classes will start the week of April 11.

Interested students should contact us for more information or to reserve a seat. Each class is limited to eight students and is first come, first served. Pre-enrollment will close April 4.

Past students are encouraged to make sure we have your current e-mail address as all advanced classes are announced by e-mail only. Any past students who are not using e-mail should contact the center for free help. No computer is needed.

Open-Space Advisory Committee to meet

The Open Space Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Members of the public who wish to address the committee may come forward and speak on matters related to the open-space advisory committee. Comments may be limited to three minutes per person or topic.
