Assemblywoman rejects property tax plan

Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, R-Reno, Friday rejected the proposed property tax plan, saying she will take her version of California's Proposition 13 directly to the voters.

Proposition 13 was approved two decades ago in California, clamping down on any increases in property taxes in that state.

She said she fears putting her proposal before the Legislature would allow lawmakers to undermine it.

She said the plan presented Friday to cap property tax increases for homeowners "appeases special-interest groups and big government."

She said transplanted Californians will support her Nevada version of Prop-13.

"This tax revolt has already begun and this legislative body is in denial if they think they can fool the voters like they did in 1980 when they derailed the adoption of Question six, the first Nevada style Prop-13," she said.
