Natives, Newcomers seeking items for rummage sale

Carson City Natives and Newcomers will hold its annual rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the corner of Highway 50 East at Saliman Road.

Anyone wanting to donate items can drop them off at 2903 Panamint Road.

All proceeds go toward helping the community.

Raffle tickets will also be available.

Free pet safety kits available at seminar

April is National Pet First Aid Awareness Month. The veterinarians of Sierra Veterinary Hospital are presenting a free "Pet Safety Kit" informational seminar to educate pet owners on how to treat minor illnesses and injuries before calling your veterinarian. The seminar will be from 7-8 p.m. April 12 at the hospital, 1477 N. Saliman Road

Group open to painters at all levels

The Carson Valley Desert Brushes will meet at 6:30 p.m. April 13 at the Johnson Lane Firehouse, 1450 Stephanie Way, Minden. Painters of all levels and those who would like to learn to paint are welcome; the meeting is free. Call 265-1937 or 883-7917.

Carson Valley Desert Brushes is also hosting a weekend seminar at the firehouse April 23-34, with Margo Clark, a nationally known teacher.

'Extreme Encounters' star in Library Week

April 11-16 is National Library Week, a time to celebrate the resources offered by Carson City Library to residents, This year's theme for National Library Week, "Extreme Encounters @ Your Library," showcases Carson City Library's services and collections that highlight "Extreme Encounters."

As part of this annual event, the Carson City Library will host the following programs and events:

• 7 p.m. April 12, award-winning photojournalist, travel photographer and Nevada Appeal photographer Rick Gunn

• 7 p.m. April 13, Sierra weather historian and author Mark McLaughlin

• 7 p.m. April 14, "Everest," an IMAX film

Reno

'Antique Roadshow's' Reno segments shown

Channel 5's program documenting Reno and the "Antiques Roadshow" will be rebroadcast at 7:30 p.m. tonight, leading into the first episode of the Reno series.

Three episodes of the PBS series "Antiques Roadshow" are scheduled to broadcast on local public television station KNPB Channel 5 at 9 p.m. tonight and continuing April 4 and April 11.

The "Antiques Roadshow" production crew visited Reno's Convention Center in August.

During the taping, more than 5,000 residents of Northern Nevada and eastern California brought their family heirlooms and memorabilia for appraisal and a potential spot on the show.

About 60 of the interviews are included in the three 60-minute programs.
