A celebration of life for James. W. Alexander, 62, a Gardnerville resident since the early 1970s, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sharkey's in Gardnerville.
Mr. Alexander died May 15, 2005, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born March 27, 1943, in Cortez, Colo., to Wilbur Lee and Mary Alma Doiel Alexander.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Seattle.
He attended South Tahoe High School.
Mr. Alexander was a deejay known as Famous James for KGVM radio. He enjoyed playing the guitar and fishing. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing poker with the boys. He traveled and managed bands in the early 1970s.
He was one of the first members of the Hot Shot Crew for Nevada in 1975 and he worked as a temporary firefighter for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in 1976.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Among his survivors are his companion, Susie Crocker of Gardnerville; son, Jesse Alexander of Hawthorne; daughter, Harmony Johnson of Phoenix; sister, Constance Alexander of Minden; and granddaughter Tawnie Alexander of Hawthorne.
Capitol City Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
