VIRGINIA CITY- The son of a Virginia City hotel developer was released from jail Thursday after spending the night locked up following his arrest for allegedly stealing a fire engine.
Hugh Roy Marshall Jr., 30, was booked into the Storey County Jail on suspicion of felony grand larceny of a motor vehicle and interfering with a peace officer.
According to Storey County Undersheriff Bruce Larson, firefighters were called to take care of a woman injured in a fight at the Mark Twain Saloon on C Street about 10:45 p.m.
"While they were in there tending to her, her male companion, (Marshall Jr.) elected to take a ride in a fire truck," said Larson.
A firefighter spotted the truck driving away but was unable to catch it.
It was recovered two blocks away with items allegedly related to Marshall Jr. inside.
When he arrived back at the saloon, he was questioned by police and he allegedly made statements concerning his involvement.
Marshall Jr. was released on his own recognizance Thursday, Larson said.
His father, Hugh Roy Marshall Sr., of Reno, has begun construction on two hotels in Virginia City estimated to cost more than $20 million to build.
When contacted Thursday night Marshall Sr. declined comment and Marshall Jr. was unavailable.
