Community Council on Youth and Wal-Mart community partnership

In an effort to show commitment to the Carson City community, Wal-Mart recently announced a new community partnership with the Community Council on Youth.

The agency has been working hard for over 15 years in Carson City to create positive change and, therefore, a positive, healthy community in which kids can grow, mature, and eventually raise their own families.

Wal-Mart has promised to provide CCOY with the products it needs to support some of its work, such as training and meeting supplies.

At its grand-opening festivities, Wal-Mart also presented CCOY with a $1,000 check to support its work. Checks were also presented to several other nonprofit organizations in the community, proving Wal-Mart's commitment to becoming a strong presence in the Carson City community.

The Community Council on Youth gets its funding from the Carson City Board of Supervisors, government grants and donations. Through these funds and through partnerships with over 10 local agencies, CCOY's work touched over 14,500 local youth last year.

For more information, call Pauline Kiser, executive director of the Community Council on Youth, at 841-4730; or Dayna Phelan, promotions director for Wal-Mart, at 883-6415.
