SilverStar planning downtown housing

SilverStar Communities, a Reno-based developer, plans a high-density residential project near the Reno police station on East Second Street Reno.

Company officials last week told the Reno City Council it hopes to purchase a parcel of vacant land from the Reno Redevelopment Agency to allow construction of the project on a vacant five-acre site.

The City Council agreed to the sale.

The redevelopment agency will get an appraisal to allow sale of the property at market value.

The property currently is used by the Reno Police Department for overflow parking.

SilverStar Communities has undertaken several in-fill developments in Reno in recent months including the Virginia Lake Crossing project on the former Mark Twain Motel site and the Brighton Manor development at Plumas and Moana Streets.
