Gap to open two stores at The Summit Sierra shopping center

Gap Inc. will have two stores - a combined GapKids and babyGap store, as well as a Gap store for adults - at The Summit Sierra shopping center under construction at the base of Mount Rose.

Gap joins Tin Star restaurants, offering a Southwestern menu; Aveda, which makes hair products and makeup; and Buckle, a clothes and shoe store. Another new retailer is L'uva Bella, offering a line of winemaking juices, supplies and equipment.

The Aveda spa store will be the company's first in Northern Nevada.

These stores announced Wednesday will join Dillard's Department Store, Century Theatres, Abercrombie & Fitch, Ann Taylor LOFT, Banana Republic, Bath & Body Works, Chico's, Coldwater Creek, Guess, Hollister, J. Jill, Jos. A. Bank, New York & Co., Patrick James, Pottery Barn, Talbots, Victoria's Secret, White House, | Black Market, Williams-Sonoma and Yankee Candle at the center.

Phase 1 of The Summit Sierra, at the intersection of Highway 395 and Mount Rose Highway, is scheduled to open March 15.

Project developers Bayer Properties Inc. and Q&D Construction report that infrastructure work is proceeding on schedule. Phase 1 buildings of The Summit Sierra are being painted 14 different colors such as sage green, yellow, gold and red. In addition, stonework is being applied to pillars, walls and other facades at the center.

More than 500 people are working at the site each day. Upon project completion, the workers will have used approximately 2,500 tons of steel, poured 6,000 yards of concrete, and moved 600,000 cubic yards of dirt to balance the site.

Currently on schedule, they are paving 1.6 million square feet of asphalt for the center's roads and parking.

"It's become very visual now," said Larry Hunt, senior property manager at The Summit Sierra. "We're about six months before opening so the details are coming together. We need to complete our exterior construction so that the individual retailers can get into their spaces and create their custom store interiors."
