(Appeal Capitol Bureau) Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Tuesday the federal budget will include $250,000 for Nevada Child Seekers, the nonprofit group dedicated to locating missing, abducted or runaway children.

"As Nevada continues growing rapidly, there is a critical need to help locate missing children in our state," he said.

Nevada Child Seekers was founded in 1985. In addition to trying to locate missing children, they conduct crisis intervention for parents and children, sponsor education and prevention programs and hold weekly family support meetings.

Reid, a longtime supporter of the group, has helped secure money for their operations four years in a row.

"This funding has given us the ability to safely recover more children and reunite them with their families throughout Nevada," said Stephanie Parker, director of the group.

10K runner dies in Tahoe Marathon

(Staff report) A 70-year-old Silver Springs man died while participating in the Lake Tahoe Marathon 10K on Saturday.

Ross Bailey suffered a heart attack during the final three-quarters of a mile of the 10K run and despite efforts of paramedics and firefighters to revive him, Bailey died on the scene.

Race director Les Wright said it is the first death in the 10-year history of the marathon.

Bailey collapsed near the Camp Richardson lodge, close to the finish line at Pope Beach.

An emergency medical technician who was trailing Bailey in the 6.2-mile race attempted to revive him with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Firefighters arrived shortly, but they, too, couldn't restart Bailey's heart.

"It's a sad moment; it puts a damper on things," Wright said.

Unlike the uphill running necessary to complete the marathon and half marathon, the 10K sends competitors downhill from its starting point above Emerald Bay. Ninety-nine percent of the run is downhill, according to Wright.
