The Rev. Gordon Garth Gibson

A celebration of life for the Rev. Gordon Garth Gibson Sr., 74, will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at El Morro Church of the Nazarene, 1480 Santa Ysabel, in Los Osos, Calif.

Mr. Gibson died Sept. 12, 2005, in Morro Bay, Calif. He was born in Reno.

He attended Southside Elementary School and B.D. Billinghurst Junior High School and graduated from Reno High School in 1948. He also graduated from Pasadena College in California.

He married Mildred Ann Stillwell.

Mr. Gibson was pastor of several churches in western Nevada and California, including El Morro and Oxnard Churches of the Nazarene. He served as a missionary in the Philippines for nearly 10 years, where he pastored the Antipolo Church of the Nazarene and supervised the development and construction of campus facilities at the Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary.

He also worked as a timber scaler of the U.S. Forest Service and as an elementary school teacher. He volunteered with the Lions Club and Kiwanis.

Among his survivors are his wife of 55 years, Millie of Morro Bay; siblings Carol and Everett Gueswell of Fort Collins, Colo., Robert and Carolyn Gibson of Carson City and Sharon Anderson of Kenai, Alaska; children Gordon Jr. and Dorothy Gibson of Oxnard, John and Laurie Gibson of Paso Robles, Calif., and Bill and Marcia Stuart of Eugene, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gordon Gibson Work and Witness Scholarship Fund in Los Osos or to Hospice Partners of San Luis Obispo, Calif.
