As Carson City residents prepare for Halloween, the Carson City Redevelopment Authority is looking ahead to Christmas.

Beginning Saturday, the fourth installment of the Carson City Christmas ornaments, featuring the Bliss Mansion, will go on sale.

"The ornaments celebrate the wonderful historical architecture in the Carson City downtown area," said Robin Wiliamson, chairwoman of the redevelopment authority.

The Bliss Mansion, across from the Governor's Mansion on Mountain Street, was built in 1879, and is a featured attraction on the annual Kit Carson Trail Ghost Walk.

The ornaments are sponsored by the redevelopment authority and are available for $15 in downtown retail stores, including The Purple Avocado, 904 N. Curry St.; Sugar Pine Cove, 1087 S. Carson St.; and the Bliss Mansion Bed and Breakfast, 608 Elizabeth St.

"The buildings are so beautiful around Carson and this is a nice way to have a collectable to represent them," said Sue Jones, co-owner of The Purple Avocado.

Limited quantities of the three previous ornaments will also be available. The series began in 2002 with the Paul Laxalt Building. In 2003 the ornament featured the Nevada State Museum and St. Peter's Church was on last year's ornament.

Buildings selected for the ornament are chosen by Sally Zola, Stan Jones and Fred Nietz of the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee from a list of historic buildings designated to be included in the series.
