A 27-year-old Carson City man who sold methamphetamine to an undercover informant was sentenced in Douglas County District Court on Tuesday to probation and counseled to be cautious in his recovery.
District Judge Dave Gamble suspended a 48-month sentence in Nevada State Prison and placed Daren Kight on three years probation.
Kight pleaded guilty to sales of a controlled substance.
"This is Daren's first arrest," said his lawyer, Robert Ben Walker. "Although it was a serious offense, but he has done quite a bit to rehabilitate himself."
Walker said his client was attending daily meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous and going to counseling.
Kight apologized for his actions.
"The work I've done will have to continue for the rest of my life," he said.
Gamble said he felt fairly confident Kight would succeed on probation.
"My primary concern is that, if possible, you have too positive an outlook," Gamble said. "You have to know this drug is crouching at your door, waiting to devour you."
Kight admitted selling methamphetamine to a contact at the All-Star Bar in Indian Hills.
