Gov. Kenny Guinn said Friday his $300 million tax rebate program passed a milestone this week when the Department of Motor Vehicles file listing everyone who will get a check was turned over to Moore Wallace, the company which will print and distribute the checks.
Guinn said the checks are expected to be in the mail early next month.
"My rebate program should assure Nevadans that their elected officials will do the right thing with surplus tax dollars - share them with the citizens of the state," he said.
That file includes the names and addresses all 1.8 million Nevadans who qualify to receive a rebate check. The program developed by Guinn and backed by lawmakers will rebate the registration fees paid for every vehicle licensed in Nevada during 2004. In addition, checks will go to 60,000 seniors who hold a Nevada identification card issued by DMV.
The minimum amount of each check is $75. The maximum is $275.
Moore Wallace is the nation's largest direct mailing company and subcontracted the job from Bank of America, which was chosen to issue the rebate checks.
