Sewing supplies company to expand its Reno center

Brewer Sewing Supplies said last week it's undertaken an 18,000-square-foot addition to its distribution center at 4995 Air Center Circle in Reno.

With the addition, the company occupies a total of 45,000 square feet of space owned by Reno-based DP Partners.

The company, which previously employed 15 in Reno, added six warehouse employees to its staff.

Peter Janss, chief financial officer of Brewer Sewing Supplies, said the company decided to expand its northern Nevada operations because of an improving labor market in the region as well as its access to customers in the Northwest and West Coast regions.

The Chicago-based company provides one- or two-day service to regional customers served from the Reno facility.

Brewer's customers include small and large sewing retailers. The Reno facility stocks fabrics, patterns, books, parts and sewing notions.

The company also runs distribution operations from Springfield, Tenn., and its headquarters in Chicago.

Brewer Sewing Supplies opened its Reno distribution center in 2002, relocating from California.

The family-owned company was founded in 1914.
