Harrah's rolls out 'Rapid Roulette' in Reno

Harrah's Reno launched Rapid Roulette last week, a form of the traditional game that equips the players with individual stations, allowing them to bet on the privacy of their own touch screens.

After a successful run at Harrah's and Harvey's Lake Tahoe and Harrah's, Las Vegas, where it was launched in 2005,Harrah's Reno believes that the game will appeal to younger guests, said Tim Tretton, director of casino operations.

And a lot of guests coming to Harrah's, Reno,he said, have played the game in other places.

"They are looking forward and are very excited about the opportunities of playing it here,"Tretton added.

John Huxley, the world's leading live table gaming manufacturer, introduced Rapid Roulette to North America at the 15th Annual World Gaming Congress and Expo in October 2001.

The pushing and jostling among players that's very much a part of the traditional roulette is absent here, Tretton said.

"A player just goes up to a machine and starts playing.

There is no intimidation,"he said.

"And it's a lot faster and you get a lot more spins than you get on a traditional roulette."

Another advantage of automated rapid play is that there is no stoppage for disputes.

The payout is calculated by the machine rather than dealers.

Harrah's Reno has installed eight stations.

None of the existing roulette games were replaced.

"We just moved some machines and opened up some space for it,"Tretton said.
