Safety conference set for return

After taking all of a two-week break after the conclusion of the Silver State Governor's Safety Conference, organizers met last week to began planning the 2007 event.

The 2006 safety conference, planned to be an annual event, drew about 125 to sessions that ran June 20-22, said organizer Joe Adams, who works at Electro-Tech in Sparks.

That number was slightly behind the organizers' initial projections, but still was enough to keep the conference on solid financial footing.

Attendees rated the seminar content at the conference as a "4" on a 5-point scale. They gave presented an average rating of 5, and gave a 4 to the usefulness of the content.

Adams said the construction industry was strongly represented at the conference. The sessions also drew strong attendance from agencies of state and local governments as well as school districts.

The conference this year drew a larger-than-expected number of safety professionals, Adams said, and the organizers will consider separate tracks for safety professionals and first-line supervisors during next year's conference.

Organizers also will look for ways to launch advertising and other publicity earlier before next year's conference, Adams said.

This year's conference was the first after a six-year hiatus for the event.
