Paisan's opens downtown deli

When he opened the first location of Paisan's Old World Deli and Catering in Reno, co-owner Mike Angelis was nervous.

But as he opens the second, a location in downtown's Museum Tower office building at Liberty and Sierra streets, he's having fun.

The 1,000-square-foot downtown location it also includes a couple of sidewalk tables for outdoor seating opened last week. It will employ four.

Angelis and his wife, Angie, opened the first location of Paisan's Old World Deli at 4826 Longley Lane about 12 years ago.

A native of Reno, Angelis said he and his wife sought to create a San Francisco-style delicatessen with their first location and now want to extend that strategy into a downtown location.

The Museum Tower deli will look to provide sandwich-and-salad catering to nearby office buildings, he said, and plans to schedule events to capitalize on its location next to the Nevada Museum of Art. Already, the deli features the work of an individual artist on its walls each month.

Paisan's remains a family-run company. The Angelis' children, Sam and Jacob, work in the stores. And Angelis' mother bakes the biscotti sold at the deli counter.
