Spanish-language safety classes set

A state agency has scheduled a series of Spanish-language classes on construction safety in Reno this week.

The safety consultation and training section of the state's Division of Industrial Relations noted that workplace injuries among Hispanic workers continue to increase.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic finds that Hispanic workers have higher injury rates than any other demographic group.

The classes scheduled in Reno include:

* An introduction to OSHA and its construction standards. The class will run Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 4600 Kietzke Lane, Suite E-144.

* A review of construction scaffold regulations with discussion of training requirements. The class is scheduled Thursday from 1-4 p.m. at 4600 Kietzke Lane, Suite E-144.

* A presentation on hazard-communication awareness. The class will run from 9 a.m. to noon at 4600 Kietzke Lane, Suite E-144.
