New research and technology, as well as policy questions about development of clean energy, will be spotlighted next week in a session sponsored by state economic development agencies.
The Nevada Clean Energy Summit will be hosted by U.S. Sen. Harry Reid and will include presentations by companies such as Reno-based Ormat Technologies and Sierra Pacific Resources.
Gov. Jim Gibbons also is expected to attend.
Nevada is No. 1 in geothermal energy use per capita in the nation, with roughly 550 megawatts currently under development and the potential for up to 1,500 megawatts total.
Reno is the only city in the country with a population of more than 100,000 people served by a utility that generates enough power through geothermal resources to supply the entire residential network within its city limits.
Nevada also ranks first in the United States in solar resources with the highest use of solar energy per capita in the nation.
The Clean Energy Summit will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tahoe Ballroom of the Peppermill Resort & Casino.
It was organized by the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, Nevada Development Authority and the Nevada Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology.
