Electronics distributor sets major expansion in Reno

BDI-Laguna, a distributor of consumer electronics and computer products, plans to more than triple the size of its warehouse operation in Reno.

The company will move its Reno warehouse in early March to a 200,000-square-foot facility nearing completion at 6650 Echo Drive in Stead. BDI-Laguna currently works from a 60,000-square-foot distribution center at 640 Maestro Drive in southeast Reno.

The new facility is a project of Panattoni Development.

BDI-Laguna, which has operated a distribution center in Reno since 2002, has seen strong growth in its West Coast business, said Joel Blank, an executive vice president with the company.

Based in Carlstadt, N.J., BDI-Laguna also operates a distribution center in Georgia. It handles products from big names such as Toshiba, Hewlett-Packard and Pioneer, and distributes products into channels ranging from e-commerce and television shopping networks to traditional retail stores.

The Reno center also will support BDI-Laguna's move into third-party logistics, in which it contracts to handle distribution services for other companies.

Blank said the company is investing heavily in technology in the new distribution center to control operating costs.

BDI-Laguna doesn't expect to add staff as a result of its move to the larger facility, although the company said continued growth of its business might result in hiring.
