Economist Jeff Thredgold, president of Thredgold Economic Associates of Clearfield, Utah, will headline Directions 2008, the annual event co-hosted by the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) and the Reno Sparks Chamber of Commerce.
The event, which is expected to draw more than 1,000 people, is scheduled from
7 a.m. to noon Jan. 30 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
Thredgold who bills himself as an "entertaining economist" will address subjects ranging from the the future course of the U.S. economy to the effects of tight labor markets on northern Nevada and the ways that the West Coast real estate market will correct itself.
Later, he will participate in a panel of economists discussing the future course of the national and regional economies. Also participating in the panel will be Eugenio Aleman, a senior economist with Wells Fargo & Co.; Bob Barone, a principal in Ancora West Advisors and chairman of the California State Auto Association; and Tom Cargill, an economics professor at the University of Nevada, Reno.
An overview of the effects that transportation projects have on the economy, both nationally and regionally, will be presented by Tom Skancke, a member of Governor Guinn's Blue Ribbon Committee on Transportation and National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission, and Greg Krause, executive director of the Regional Transportation Commission.
Sara Hart, director of research at InfoSearch International, and Valerie Glenn, the president and chief executive officer of The Glenn Group, will present results of an annual survey of the outlook of business executives in the region.
