Reno event to spotlight world trade

Business leaders involved in international trade will mingle with government leaders and academics at the annual World Trade Day in Reno May 24.

The event sponsored by Nevada World Trade Council will be at the Atlantis Casino Resort.

Among the topics on the agenda are challenges in international trading, export opportunities in stabilization and reconstruction as wars wind down and women participate in international trade, said Rajan Zed, a member of the NEWTRAC board of directors.

Scheduled speakers include Lin Wells, deputy director of international technology and assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and Fidela Irigoyen, who, based in Phoenix, handles the international working capital portfolio nationwide for Wells Fargo/HSBC Trade Bank.

About 10 representatives from foreign nations will be available to offer expert opinions on trading with their respective countries.

Entry fee for the day-long event is $75 for NEWTRAC members, $90 for non-members, and $50 for students.
