The Hartford to trim 95 from staff of support center in Reno

The Hartford will close a Reno office that handles service and underwriting of personal lines insurance, a move that affects 95 of the company's workers.

The company decided to consolidate the personal-lines support into four other centers across the United States, said Joseph Loparco, a spokesman for the Connecticut-based insurance company.

The Hartford will continue to provide back-office support of life insurance and commercial lines from the office at 9850 Double R Blvd.

Loparco said workers will be given an opportunity to apply for other positions within the company and will be provided career-transition services by The Hartford.

As of last week, 16 had accepted relocation packages to other service center sites and eight will be able to work remotely.

The company hopes to sublease most of the 28,856 square feet it leases in South Meadows, but Loparco said it will retain some of the space for the life insurance and commercial lines business.

The company moved to South Meadows in 2004 after it previously leased space in the Meadowood area.

Loparco said, too, the company isn't abandoning its personal insurance in Nevada.

"We remain committed to Nevada agents and to writing personal lines property and casualty business in the state," the company spokesman said.

He said the company decided to close the Reno personal lines office as part of a streamlining campaign.

The work is expected to be moved to offices as Southington, Conn; Lehigh Valley, Pa.; Oklahoma City and San Diego by the end of the year.
