First Independent plans sixth branch

First Independent Bank of Nevada will develop a branch location as part of a multi-tenant retail complex at the corner of Kresge Lane and South McCarran Boulevard, the site of the old Humane Society Building.

The 3,900-square-foot branch location built by Frank Lepori Construction is scheduled to be complete this year.

Designed by architect Carlin Williams, the project's interior and exterior will have an industrial look that blends with the surrounding neighborhood. The branch also will have an extra-wide drive-up lane to accommodate the larger vehicles common in the area.

Mike Hix, senior vice president for branch administration with First Independent Bank, said the bank likes visibility the location provides in a neighbrhood of industrial companies and small businesses.

The bank also is building a branch at Spanish Springs, its fifth. It currently operates two locations in Reno, one in Sparks and one in Fallon.
