You too can do but turn that frown upsidedown

People have posted their take pro and con on life in northern Nevada on a Web site, onegoodreason.org/post.htm. Its part of the Can Do campaign launched by Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada. The site is designed to position northern Nevada as an attractive place to build or relocate a business, says Lorna Shepard, principal of Red Dog Consulting, hired by the authority to work on the campaign. Billboard, newspaper and radio ads began last month to promote the Can Do brand in the local market before promoting out of market, Shepard adds. While Shepard cites no firm plans to incorporate any copy from the blog into the media campaign, she says, If we hear other peoples reasons on why they like living here it might give us more ideas of what else to promote.Postings on the can do Web site are mostly so upbeat they could have been written by an advertising copywriter. But the occasional poet, iconoclast or barfly also posts. The posting site is edited for profanity and personal attacks, but not for content, EDAWN representatives say.But an iconoclastic Sparks businessman, Kevin Haddock, president and chief executive officer of Testwave, thinks otherwise. They pulled my post then replaced it with more marshmallow, he says. Then they traced it back to my URL and added my initials. So he posted again about the trickery of using readback capability to trace the URL. Then they pulled my initialed post completely, he says.In short, says Haddock, I find the site frustrating and deceptive. Besides, its pointless. I dont see what its supposed to do. To entice business owners to move here? Tim OBrien, creative director at R&R Partners, which developed the campaign, says the agency manually checks the site once a day but only pulls something about once a week. Weve done precious little, he adds. However, site-monitoring technology stands constant guard. Weve put in a lot of filters to detect keywords and phrases to detect bad language, curse words, attacks on a person or any blatant attempts at self promotion, he says.A sampling from the site: You cant find geography like this anywhere else the French Alps to the west, the expanses of the Asian steppe to the east amazing and gorgeous !!
