James Hardie quarry approved in Humboldt

James Hardie Building Products Inc. won environmental approval from the Bureau of Land Management for expansion of a quarry operation about a mile south of Golconda in Humboldt County.

The company plans to mine up to 200,000 cubic yards of quartzite over five years from the 53-acre site.

James Hardie makes fiber-cement siding at a plant at Tahoe Reno Industrial Center and other locations around the world.

The BLM's Winnemucca field office approved the plan.
