Fernley plans to revitalize its Main Street
with an eye toward building a thriving retail
sector and keeping retail tax dollars at home.
A series of public meetings are designed
to garner input on everything from types of
shops wanted to overall architectural look.
And a survey form to collect comments is
available by mail and online at
cityoffernley.org.
Once tallied, the information will go to
the Fernley Chamber of Commerce for use in
recruiting said shops, says Rochelle Brassard,
associate planner with the city.
The next step is to meet with downtown
property and business owners. The city plans
to seek matching grant money to enact the
resultant plan. No timeline is set for completion.
The Main Street improvements, says the
city, are expected serve as a catalyst for future
development and investment, create and keep
tax dollars within Fernley; provide considerable
economic benefit in terms of new jobs,
sales tax revenues and increased spending in
the downtown district.
