Maui Wowi makes entrance in region

Carson City's north-side retail cluster attracted franchise owners Janice and Robert Wimer, who situated Maui Wowi Hawaiian on East College Parkway in the Irwin Financial Center.

The reason she chose the franchise, says Wimer, is "nice Hawaiian attitude." The 1,000- square-foot store employs three.

It's one of three franchises the couple bought; they may situate a second Maui Wowi in Douglas County. Already, they've taken the franchised Kaanapali Kart, a 7-foot-long mobile smoothie station, to events in Genoa, Yerington and Carson City. Dayton Valley Days is next.

"People already know us for smoothies," says Wimer. "The challenge is getting the word out that we now sell Kona coffee."

Maui Wowi Hawaiian sells fruit smoothies, espresso and cappuccino drinks, food items and apparel. The store opened July 13.

The parent company, founded in 1983, has 325 franchise locations in 42 states along with about 350 mobile carts.
